Caring for Seniors Series – “Green Leisure Chess for Active Ageing”
On 17 September 2026, Harriman partnered with Yang Memorial Methodist Social Service - Yau Tsim Neighbourhood Elderly Centre to organise the Caring for Seniors Series – “Green Leisure Chess for Active Ageing” programme. Through interactive and engaging gameplay, the initiative brought a meaningful and enjoyable experience to seniors at a senior citizen cognitive training centre.
The chessboards used in the programme were handcrafted by talented seniors from the Centre using recyclable materials collected by Harriman. Through upcycling, discarded materials were transformed into practical game sets, promoting environmental awareness while showcasing the creativity and craftsmanship of older adults.
To complement the chessboards, Harriman also designed a series of game cards aimed at providing cognitive stimulation through strategic thinking, memory exercises and social interaction. The programme sought to help seniors maintain mental agility, reduce the risk of cognitive decline, and encourage active community engagement.
The seniors enthusiastically participated in the activities, building friendships and sharing joyful moments along the way. By combining sustainability, creativity and active ageing, the programme supported seniors' wellbeing while fostering a stronger sense of community.
As part of our ongoing commitment to community care and sustainable development, Harriman will continue working with community partners to create meaningful initiatives that contribute to the wellbeing of seniors and a more inclusive society.
